ASAP Rocky is an American rapper, songwriter, music producer, and member of A$AP Mob. His studio albums include Live. Love. A$AP (2011) and At. Long. Last. A$AP (2015). Rocky was born Rakim Mayers on October 3, 1988, in Manhattan, New York. His brother ‘Ricky’ was killed in 2002 and his father died in 2012. He has a sister named Erika B. Mayers. Rocky grew up in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City. He also lived in various shelters with his mom and sister.

CAREER
Rocky began his rapping career at an early age. He was inspired by acts like UKG, the Diplomats, and Mobb Deep. The death of his brother also had a major impact on his career path. Rocky joined the Harlem hip hop collective, A$AP Mob, in 2007. The other members include A$AP Ferg, A$AP Nast, A$AP Twelvyy, A$AP Bari and A$AP TyY. Co-founder and music executive ‘A$AP Yams’ died in 2015. A$AP Mob’s first official mixtape, Lords Never Worry, was released in August 2012 by ASAP Worldwide. Their debut studio album, Cozy Tapes Vol. 1: Friends (2016), was released 4 years later. The album peaked at #4 on the US Rap Album chart. It featured guest appearances from artists like Juicy J, Wiz Khalifa, Lil Yachty, and Playboi Carti.

Rocky’s solo debut mixtape, Live. Love. ASAP, was independently released in 2011. His debut studio album, Long. Live. A$AP (2013), was released by Polo Grounds and RCA Records. It debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. The album sold over 1 million copies and was certified Platinum by the RIAA. It was led by the singles “Goldie”, “Wild for the Night” and “Fashion Killa”. The single “Fuckin’ Problems” featuring Drake, 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar won a number of awards including a BET Award for best collaboration. Rocky’s sophomore release, At. Long. Last. A$AP, dropped in May 2015. It spawned the singles “Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye 2 (LPFJ2)”, “Everyday”, and “LSD”.

Rocky was cast as “Dom” in the comedy-drama, Dope (2015). The film was directed by Rick Famuyiwa and produced by Forest Whitaker and Nina Yang Bongiovi. His film credits also include Zoolander 2 (2016) with Ben Stiller, and Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (2016) with Andy Samberg. He voiced the character “Falcon” from the Marvel Avengers Academy video game.
